Battery maintenance is very crucial for the lifespan of your golf cart batteries. It is important to:
*Maintain proper water level
-Water should cover the lead plates 1/2" in each cell of the battery
-Do not overfill batteries, this will most likely will cause the battery to overflow acid, consequently losing capacity and causing a corrosive mess
*Keep batteries clean and free of corrosion
-Cleaning off dirt and dust that builds up on top is important for proper battery maintenance
-Make sure vent caps are tight and secure before cleaning them
*Charge the batteries after each use
- Charge cart when done with it for the day to allow for a full charge to be reached during one charge cycle
-Lead acid batteries do not develop a memory and do need not be fully discharged before recharging
- Periods of inactivity can be extremely harmful to lead acid batteries
- Depending on your model of golf cart there are different procedures to take to prepare them for a storage period. Most carts with a tow/run switch can be put into the tow position for storage.
- It is important to fully charge the cart before leaving and to have it charged at least once a month while away for the cart to maintain a proper charge.
-Batteries in storage should be given a boost charge when they show a 70% charge or less
Proper maintenance of the batteries will result in a longer life span and better golf cart performance.
